COMPARATIVE

​

  1. Compare two things

  2. Accompanied by than after the adjective

  3. Have the suffix -er  or quantifier 'more'

​

For example: 

  • Amalina is smarter than his brother.

  • Amalina is more intelligent than his brother.

SUPERLATIVE

​

  1. Compare three or more things

  2. Must be preceded by the

  3. Have the suffix -est or quantifier 'most'

​

For example:

  • Amalina is the smartest in the family.

  • Amalina is the most intelligent in the family.

​

IRREGULAR COMPARATIVES AND SUPERLATIVES

Irregular adjectives use completely different forms.

​

  1. The adjectives are completely changed

  2. No need to add the suffixes -er / -est or the quantifier 'more / most'.

  3. The word than following the comparative adjectives and the preceding the superlative adjectives are retained
